On September 12, 2024, we were thrilled to open our doors to local Wrexham businesses for an exclusive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event at our Oswestry headquarters. Supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, this event was a fantastic opportunity for us to share our CSR journey with other businesses in the region, while inspiring them to start or enhance their own.
As a European leader in home life safety solutions, CSR has always been at the heart of everything we do at Aico. During the event, our CSR team—Ryan, Laura, and Jane—presented the structure of our Sustainability Programme, with a special focus on our five key pillars and the journey we’ve been on since 2018. We delved deep into how our community pillar guides our work, from fundraising and volunteer days to partnerships with educational and charitable organisations.
Hearing how other businesses are now considering CSR as a vital part of their operations reinforced why we continue to lead in this area, and we were proud to showcase the ways we’ve integrated our values into every aspect of our business.
An Inside Look at Aico
One of the highlights of the event was giving attendees a behind-the-scenes tour of our facility, where they could witness firsthand how Aico operates on a day-to-day basis. During the tour, guests learned more about the technology that powers our life-saving alarms and how we integrate sustainability and employee wellbeing into our operations.
We also took time to talk about the core values that guide Aico’s culture. Ryan shared how these values were created and how they inform every decision we make; from the way we treat our employees to how we give back to the communities we serve.
Building Connections and New Partnerships
The event provided a fantastic opportunity for attendees to network and form connections with like-minded businesses and social enterprises from across the Wrexham County Borough. It was inspiring to see so many businesses eager to learn about CSR and to hear their plans for incorporating it into their own organisations.
Over light refreshments, the discussions were lively, with participants exchanging ideas and experiences about CSR, and we hope that the connections made during this event will lead to meaningful collaborations in the future.
A Fun and Insightful Team Building Session
To conclude the day, we hosted a team-building session that emphasized the importance of communication within teams—an essential skill not just for business but also for effective community engagement. Attendees were set a challenge that highlighted how working together towards a common goal can create better outcomes. It was wonderful to see participants engaging with the task and reflecting on how they can improve teamwork within their own businesses.
Feedback from Our Guests
We were overwhelmed by the positive feedback we received from attendees. Sharon Roberts of Wrexham Lager shared:
“We are extremely pleased to have had the opportunity to visit Aico, an event organised by WCBC, where we were able to learn more about Aico’s robust Corporate Social Responsibility policy. A company doing great things for its employees, the community, and the environment.”
Hearing comments like these reminds us why we’re so passionate about our CSR programme—it’s not just about what we do as a company, but how we can inspire others to do the same.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on the success of this event, we are excited about what’s to come. Our CSR programme continues to grow, with new initiatives planned to support both local and national communities. We remain committed to fostering a positive impact through partnerships, staff volunteer days, and educational projects, and we’re proud to lead by example in the world of corporate social responsibility.
We would like to thank everyone who attended and the UK Government for their support through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. We hope that our journey will inspire others to begin their own, and we look forward to seeing how these businesses will go on to make a difference.
