Aico, the European market leader in home life safety, have recently participated in an online ‘Careers and Coffee’ event as members of the Marches Careers Hub’s Cornerstone Employer Group. The group includes Aico, Capgemini, Kier Construction, Wrekin Housing Group and Sequani, who are working as Enterprise Advisers (EA) with their networks and the wider business community to ensure all young people have the opportunities they need to be prepared and inspired for the world of work.
The focus of this event was to increase the number of Enterprise Advisers across the region who can provide support pathways for local schools or colleges into work and help to shape children’s futures. This rewarding volunteering role can help close the gap between work and education, working with the Careers Leader and wider senior leaders of a school or college to create opportunities for young people.
The event offered the opportunity to hear from existing Enterprise Advisers about their experiences, why they signed up for the role and how you can become part of a network to help make a difference. The guest speakers for the event were Claire Wozencroft, Managing Director of V8Media and Catherine Keeble, A Lead Business Architect. They are also Enterprise Advisers within the Marches region, invited by The Cornerstone Employer Group to speak about their role as an EA and share their experiences.
Victoria Elsey, Business Partnership Senior Manager, The Careers & Enterprise Company comments “The Marches Careers Hub and Cornerstone Employers Careers & Coffee Event was a great success and really bought to life the rewarding role of the Enterprise Adviser. Critical to the work of The Careers & Enterprise Company, EA’s work strategically with a Careers Leader and wider senior leaders of a school or college, supporting the development of a careers programme designed to inspire and inform young people, enabling them to find their best next step. Hearing directly from existing EAs, attendees were given the opportunity to ask questions and to understand the business benefits undertaking the EA role provides employers. A huge thanks to all parties for hosting such an informative session.”
Jane Pritchard, Community Liaison for Aico is also an Enterprise Advisor and comments “As members of the Cornerstone Employer Group, Aico are keen to continually look at ways in which we can improve opportunities for young people when they leave Education. There is need for more Enterprise Advisers to work with schools and colleges across the Marches region. I hope events such as this, will help to raise awareness and encourage those who have a passion for helping young people and want to inspire our future workforce to consider this rewarding role.”
Through its Careers Hub, the Marches LEP is working with the Careers and Enterprise Company and its local authority partners to connect schools with business people, develop effective careers guidance approaches and support delivery of Gatsby Benchmarks to improve outcomes for young people.
