Aico, a UK market leader in Smoke and CO detection, recently welcomed final year Electrical Installation students from Coleg Cambria to our state of the art Centre of Excellence.
The students along with their lecturer were invited to the Centre of Excellence at Aico’s head office in Oswestry, Shropshire for an afternoon of training by Regional Specification Manager, Daniel Thomas.
Daniel took the students on a tour of the Centre of Excellence, including a company timeline showing product development, a virtual video tour of the manufacturing process of the alarms and a tour through Ember Place.
Ember Place is a mock bungalow created by Aico to highlight fire and CO risks within a home as well as showing best practice for where alarms should be sited in relation to these risks.
The students then took part in Aico’s CPD accredited Expert Installer training, including a live smoke chamber demonstration of how alarms react to smoke, heat and CO, led by Dave Jennings, Technical Advisor.
Expert Installer training is designed to ensure everyone involved in domestic alarm specification and installation has all the information they need for successful fire alarm installation. This training scheme has recently won two prestigious awards from industry bodies, within a matter of weeks.
Alex Robinson, lecturer in Electrical Installation for Coleg Cambria, accompanied the students on their visit and was highly impressed ‘It is great to see learners also engaging with a product they will potentially be installing in a few weeks’ time when they leave college and enter the industry. A big thank you to Dan and David for the engaging talk, technical knowledge and welcoming atmosphere!’
