Aico is delighted to announce that esteemed colleagues from Aico and parent company Ei Electronics have been appointed chairmen of the Fire Industry Association (FIA) Smoke Alarm Devices (SAD) sub working group and the Council of Gas Detection and Environmental Monitoring (CoGDEM) Carbon Monoxide (CO) sub working group.
National Technical Manager at Aico, Andy Speake and Senior Technologist at Ei Electronics, Dr David Richardson have secured key roles on the two industry association councils, which encompass the domestic and industrial detection of both fire and CO.
Andy Speake comments of his appointment to the FIA SAD sub working group, “Aico are the market leader in Fire and CO protection so it makes sense that we are heavily involved in all industry activities. The industry associations, along with various working groups and committees, provide an opportunity for us to drive positive changes within the market, which ultimately better protects our customers.”
The FIA is the largest fire protection trade association in the UK whose objectives are the promotion and improvement of methods of fire protection, devices, services and apparatus. The association liaises with government and official bodies to shape and promote the legislation and professional standards of the fire industry. The SAD sub working group sits within the Fire Detection and Alarm Council, made up of representatives from the fire detection and alarm equipment industry, and monitors and influences standards, regulations and legislation across the sector.
The key focus of the CoGDEM Carbon Monoxide sub working group revolves around developing policy and standards surrounding CO, to raise awareness and public safety. The council is seen as a non-commercial advisor on CO and promotes awareness and safety, representing over 60 companies at UK and European parliament levels.
