On Wednesday 27th March, South Eastern Regional College, CITB and Aico worked in partnership to host the first Northern Ireland Fire Forum at the College’s Professional Skills Centre at Dundrod.

The morning session was open to students studying the Fire and Security Apprenticeship at SERC. Students had the opportunity to take part in hands on training sessions, covering modules from Aico’s Expert Installer Training Scheme, which Electrical Contractors can access free of charge and ensures they have all the information they need to install domestic Fire and Carbon Monoxide alarm systems.

The afternoon session was opened and supported by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Alderman William Leathem. Throughout the afternoon delegates had the opportunity to visit the Aico mobile unit and took part in the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) session on Aico’s Core Module and BS5839 Part 6 Revision. The aim was to provide valuable professional development, networking and the chance to share best practice, whilst gaining the latest insight from the industry.

Stuart Rankin, Deputy Head of School for Construction, Engineering Services and Skills for Work at SERC said, “We were delighted to host the Northern Ireland Fire Industry Forum at this specialist training day in partnership with Aico and the Construction Industry Training Board. We hope to organise a further event in the future with the same partners. This was a great opportunity to help promote and support the sector and provide training on the required standards for domestic installation for the fire industry. It also gave us an opportunity to provide this relevant training to our Fire Engineering Apprentices within SERC keeping them up to date with standards and product information.”

Duncan Orr, Regional Specification Manager for Aico “Northern Ireland was lacking a Fire Industry event that allowed Industry Professionals to not only stay on top of the latest legislation but also an opportunity to network with each other and share Best Practice. This is what we aimed to work with SERC and CITB to provide.”
